Internic.ca Achieves Registrar Status for Top Level .CA Domain Names

    Pre-Registration Activity Climbs to Record Numbers 
    in Advance of Rule Changes

    OTTAWA, Aug. 31 /CNW/ - Internic.ca today announced that the firm has
been the first domain registration company to be granted the status of
Certified Registrar from the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA).
    Commenting on the CIRA certification, Mr. Hall, President of Internic.ca,
said that the new designation means his firm will be able to continue to offer
a complete set of services to Internet users. "This is an important step in
the evolution of the company. The CIRA certification maintains Internic.ca's
position as the major player in the domain name registration market in
Canada."
    All existing .ca domain name holders will be required to pick a CIRA
Certified Registrar to keep their .ca domain name. Today, Internic.ca becomes
the first such registrar. "We believe that our simple, real-time web pages
coupled with our great customer service gives us an edge over all other
registrars." says Hall. "In addition to our current .ca clients, we look
forward to offering our services to the 90,000 .ca domain holders who need to
choose a CIRA Certified Registrar."
    Existing .ca domain name holders can now begin the process of
transferring their domain to CIRA through www.internic.ca.
    Mr. Hall also reported that the Pre-Registration service launched by
Internic.ca in mid July 2000 has received a tremendous public response. To
this point in time the company has received over 26,000 pre-registrations from
Canadian companies and individuals.
    The Pre-Registration service allows Canadians to get in line now on a
first come first served basis for a .ca domain name prior to rule changes this
fall. As soon as the new system is turned on, Internic.ca will immediately
attempt to register all the domain names from their Pre-Registration service.
